trans-o-flex expands transhipment capacity in Germany and the Netherlands

New central hub in s'Hertogenbosch and new sites in Bavaria and Brandenburg optimise the national and international network of the express delivery service: more capacity, optimised transport routes, more flexible delivery in conurbations, simpler deadline deliveries
Weinheim, 29 August 2011 - On time for the peak season of the shipping trade in late summer and autumn, trans-o-flex Schnell-Lieferdienst will be expanding its transhipment capacity in Germany and the Netherlands. For this purpose, the new sites in Bergkirchen to the west of Munich and Trebbin in Brandenburg will start operating on 3 September. The site in Bruchsal will complete an expansion at the beginning of October. What is more, a new central hub for the Netherlands has been running in s'Hertogenbosch (in short: Den Bosch) since the beginning of this month. "With our continuous expansion and optimisation of the network, we are following the strategy of relieving the strain on existing sites with relatively small expandable sites and, above all, making the delivery to conurbations more flexible", says Wolfgang Weber, the Managing Director of trans-o-flex Logistics Group responsible for operational issues. "We are shortening the routes to the very last mile, which means we can organise express deliveries more easily."
Bergkirchen will relieve the strain on the existing system partner sites of trans-o-flex in Munich and Augsburg in making deliveries. The transhipment facility at the new site is 6,800 square metres in size and has 21 truck gateways. Added to this are more than 800 square metres of offices and rest rooms for the 16 employees in all.
The new site in Trebbin in Brandenburg relieves the strain on the Berlin site. The 4,200 square metre large facility has six truck gateways and separate office suites which are, however, integrated in the facility.
The expansion which has been underway at the site in Bruchsal since the middle of June is scheduled to be completed by 4 October. The transhipment facility will increase in size by 1,700 square metres. With a total transhipment area of 4,530 square metres, the capacity in Bruchsal will increase by a good 60 per cent. The extension offers room for an additional twelve transporters and ten trucks. "With this expansion, we are taking into account the steadily increasing quantities in Bruchsal and creating capacity for further growth", says Weber.

New central hub of the Netherlands relieves the strain on Cologne and Duisburg
The new central hub in the Dutch city of Den Bosch bundles and speeds up the transport and sorting workflows for trans-o-flex shipments to the Netherlands on the one hand and relieves the strain on the German sites in Cologne and Duisburg on the other hand. For it was from there that goods were in some cases previously collected in Belgium and the Netherlands and fed into the German network. At the same time, Cologne served as the gateway for shipments to the Netherlands.
The hub will be put into operation in stages: this month the operation in Den Bosch has started with the takeover and delivery functions in Eindhoven and its surrounding areas. The function as central delivery point for shipments to Holland will be added in September; this will still be carried out by Cologne until then. In addition to the central bundling of all transports from Germany to the Netherlands, the pre-sorting for the various Dutch delivery locations also takes place in Den Bosch. To do this, a fully automatic sorting plant for parcels was installed. It has 40 destinations and is designed for 5,000 packages per hour as a continuous output. 34 direct lines connect the site with German transhipment points. The some 5,000 square metre large facility has 20 truck gateways.
