MEDICE introduces active temperature control for the transportation of its pharmaceuticals

Following an investment of several millions of euros in the expansion of its network for temperature-sensitive products, the trans-o-flex Group now offers a unique service package for the transportation of sensitive goods (in the temperature ranges of 2 to 8 °C and 15 to 25 °C) as well as temperature-resistant products

Weinheim, 14th June 2010 - In order to comply with the regulatory provisions and to ensure the quality of its pharmaceuticals during their delivery to pharmacies and wholesalers, MEDICE Arzneimittel Pütter GmbH & Co. KG, located in Iserlohn, has decided to commission trans-o-flex ThermoMed GmbH & Co. KG with the actively temperature-controlled transportation of its pharmaceutical products from June 2010 onwards. Thanks to ThermoMed's unique service package for the transportation of pharmaceutical products within the ranges of 2 to 8 °C and 15 to 25 °C, MEDICE no longer needs to use the expensive thermo boxes. Goods that are not temperature-sensitive, such as advertising material, are delivered through the network of trans-o-flex Schnell-Lieferdienst. "An important benefit of this solution is the fact that the trans-o-flex Group offers us its service as a one-stop shop and that we get a logistic quality that fully meets all the different requirements of our products', says Dr Sigurd Pütter, who, together with Dr Katja Pütter, manages MEDICE as the company's proprietor. The family-owned, medium-sized company has built a name for itself in Germany, developing and producing high-quality pharmaceuticals, such as e.g. Meditonsin or Soventol.
The co-operation in Germany between MEDICE and ThermoMed will start in June and covers a daily volume of some 1,000 parcels, while in Austria, where ThermoMed's subsidiary Scherübl has been providing its logistic services in both temperature ranges for several years, MEDICE is already belonging to the ThermoMed Group's customer base. As MEDICE emphasises, the reason to change over to trans-o-flex ThermoMed in Germany as well was the investment of several millions of euros in the expansion of a nationwide network with special vehicles in order to comply with the regulatory provisions of the Ordinance on the Manufacture of Medicinal Products and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (AMWHV) for temperature-sensitive products. One of the AMWHV provisions specifies that the storage conditions provided on the packaging have also to be met and documented during transportation. Thanks to ThermoMed's technical solutions, the customers can now prove accurately as to when, where and at which temperatures their shipments are transported. In addition to this, the trans-o-flex applications also make it possible to carry out individual analyses, including the sensitive temperature data, at any time. In Germany, the responsibility for the compliance with the provisions has been taken over by the Regional Councils. "The co-operation with MEDICE confirms our decision to expand our actively temperature-controlled services from 2 to 8 °C to the range of 15 to 25°C", says Carsten Glos, Managing Director of trans-o-flex ThermoMed. "Today, the expansion of our network, which we started last year, has almost reached its final stage and we are happy that customers like MEDICE appreciate our efforts in this respect."
